| Check | Item | Description |
| Car | Shouldn't be leaking anything or making funny noises | |
| Gas | At least a quarter tank. High lateral g's make fuel starvation easy | |
| Helmet | If you've got one, don't forget to bring it. Sometimes they run out of loaners that fit. | |
| Driving Gloves | Don't let sweaty hands ruin a good autocross run! | |
| Tire Pressure Gauge | Fine tune those tire pressures to suit the conditions | |
| Hat | Keep the sun off your face as much as possible. Also conceals "helmet head" hairstyle. | |
| Umbrella | If you're like me and don't like sunblock, an umbrella is a must. In some parts of the country outside of Phoenix, it's been known to rain too. | |
| Water | Bring your own unless you really like spending on-site prices. | |
| Snack Food | See above. | |
| Tissues/Paper napkins | Help keep your hands free of dirt/dust/food, etc. | |
| Camera | If allowed on site. See sub-items | |
| -----> Film | Bring 100 and 400 speed and don't load it until you see the conditions at the track, if possible. | |
| -----> Batteries | If your camera needs batteries, check them before leaving, or bring extras. | |
| Race tire stuff | Stuff you'll need if you've got race tires | |
| -----> Trunk Mat | Put something like an old blanket in your trunk to keep it clean. | |
| -----> Tires on wheels | Make sure those race tires are mounted right and free of damage when you take them out. Check the tire pressures while you're at it. | |
| -----> Jack | Something better than the one your car comes with. Make sure it works, too. | |
| -----> Wheel chocks | Don't let your car roll away from you while it only has three wheels on. That's bad. | |
| -----> Jack stands | I always leave these at home, but if you plan on doing more than changing tires, bring them with you. | |
| -----> Tire iron | I suggest using a cheap tire iron to free the bolts. No point using a $60 torque wrench to unscrew bolts. The one your car comes with would be fine. | |
| -----> Torque wrench | Make sure it's working, and remember to bring the right socket for tightening lug nuts. | |
| -----> Work Gloves | Tires are dirty. Unless you want to be too, use gloves. Preferably not your driving gloves. | |
| Camera mount | Install it beforehand, if in-car cameras are allowed at your site. | |
| -----> Video camera | Makes the installation of your in-car camera mount much more meaningful. | |
| -----> Lens filter | Get either a clear glass, or a neutral density filter and screw it in. Any dust that accumulates will then be on your cheap filter instead of the lens itself. | |
| -----> Tapes | Make sure you've got a blank tape or two. | |
| -----> Batteries | Make sure any and all camcorder batteries you bring are fully charged beforehand. | |
| -----> Securing straps | Most places require in-car cameras to have backup securing straps. Remember to bring at least one. | |
| Folding chairs | Hot pavement is no fun, and neither is standing. | |
| Air tank | A must for adding another few pounds of pressure when you can't find an air compressor around. | |
| Tire Pyrometer | I don't have one of these either, but they can be useful. | |
| Stickers/magnets | I love magnetic graphics. Put them on for racing, take them off for the other 29 days a month I'm not racing. | |
| Sunblock | Even with a hat and umbrella, this stuff's a good idea. Get 25 or higher and consider bringing it to the track with you. | |
| Pens/Paper | You may want to record your tire pressure, lap times, or other things while at the track. | |
| Jacket/Sweatshirt | Just in case the weather turns suddenly cold, it's good to be prepared. | |
| Windex | Always a good idea to bring it with you. | |
| Flashlight | Good for working at night, or under the car. | |
| Radios | Easiest way to communicate with friends when driving in a caravan. | |
| Plastic bags | Put anything you want to keep clean in plastic bags. Also put trash or dirty things in separate bags. | |
| Tape/tie wraps/tools | You never know what you might need at the track. Feel free to bring anything else that might help fix broken stuff quickly. |
This list is by no means perfect for everyone. It's the list that I use, and may help others who are forgetful like me to keep from rushing out the door at 6:30am while leaving something important at home. This is especially important if you're like me and home is an hour or so from the track. If you have any questions or comments, please email me.
