Route 66

Civic Roadtrip Photo Journal

Welcome to my Civic Roadtrip page. I started this area out as a very detailed accounting of various trips around the state, but I really got pretty tired of that after a while. The first three or four trips pretty much held to that first basic formula, but all the ones after those focus more just on the actual pictures which I took in all these various places. The later trips don't focus on my Civic quite as much either, but more on either the places I went, or just on pictures for the sake of taking pictures.

3-12-05 - Gila Bend and the Painted Rocks Petroglyph site: With 131,000 miles on my car at this point, it's not like I haven't been going out for long drives, but I hadn't really done any recently that were just kind of a drive for the sake of doing a drive and taking some pictures along the way. I picked up a new in-car gadget called a ScanGauge however and decided it was time for a roadtrip to some random part of the state to collect some data. By pointing to west central Arizona I was able to spot a tiny state park, and that became the destination.

9-4-98 / 9-13-98 - East AZ and Mt. Lemmon: This set of pictures is actually from two separate drives. The first started by heading out past Globe all the way to Clifton near the New Mexico border. From there I headed north to Springerville, and then came back down by a southwest route through Globe on my way back home. The other was a drive up Mt. Lemmon, which is just north of Tucson.

6-26-98 - Tonto Natural Bridge: Same day as the drive to Meteor Crater, I continued on in search of adventure. Well, if not adventure, at least something to run through another roll of film on. Along the way I went through Winslow, found a lake, and actually took a few hours to hike through Tonto Natural Bridge. The Bridge is just 10 miles north of Payson, and a great place hike, take pictures, and just relax and enjoy the surroundings.

6-26-98 - Meteor Crater: Ever since I'd seen the park info when I was a kid, I had been fascinated by this odd creation of space and nature. To think just a big 150-foot diameter mass of iron and nickel hitting the Earth at 45,000 miles per hour could do such a thing really interested me. Judging by the number of movies about meteors and such that have come out this summer, it interests a lot of other people too.

February-April of 1998: The spring comes early in the Valley of the Sun, but it's a wonderful time to be outdoors, and great weather to be driving and getting pictures of all there is to see. In this area you'll find a handful of photos taken from within the valley itself, in and around the Phoenix area.

12-18-97 - North at Night: After having some good luck with night time pictures at the end of my previous roll of film, I decided to expand on that theme. This one was an all-night trip from Phoenix to Flagstaff by way of the same route 87 to 3 that I used in the second trip (see below). To make up for some previous trips not having many pictures of my car, nine of the twelve pictures here are of my Civic. Overall, one of the better sets included here.

11-27-97 - AZ Auto Show: This time around I took a few pictures at the auto show, a few pictures of textured stuff, and a few time lapse pictures of the stars and the clouds. Doesn't really focus on my civic, but more on just taking pictures.

10-30-97 - Flagstaff: Some nice pictures taken around Snowbowl on the San Francisco Peaks (Yes, this is still Arizona) in Autumn. Mostly pictures of the area, and not so many of my car, since I sure do have plenty of pictures of my car by now. 102k to load up all the preview pictures for this one.

9-12-97 - Bartlett Lake: An early morning drive to Bartlett Lake, 20 miles or so north-east of Phoenix. One thing of note here. All the above trips are something have something like 200k of preview graphics, so for the Bartlett Lake ones, I changed the preview file size, and JPEG compression, so the entire page is only 62k of preview files, so it should load lots more quickly.

3-15-97, 5-17 and 6-22 - Route 87, The Grand Canyon, and Rock Climbing: The three least viewed areas have all been compacted into this one area now, and I stripped nearly all the comments out, since I doubt anyone reads them anyway. Most of the pictures are quite good, so have youself a look if you have not seen them already. This area loads a great deal more quickly than each of the three areas it replaces.

3-8-97 - The first trip: My solo run from Mesa through Phoenix, up to Prescott, on to Flagstaff, and back down to Mesa covering 435 miles on a single tank of gas. This was my best documented road trip, but the least eventful.
